We are a group of people brought together through a shared interest of thinking about what is happening in the world—through Shakespeare. Our guiding principle is to foster the capability of being in uncertainty, an uncertainty that has varied forms in modern life. To this end we create informative, educational videos and podcasts for a varied audience ranging from shorter, introductory pieces to longer and more in depth content. In addition, we organise and record public talks and conferences as well as collate online resources and bibliographies on our homepage.
We are all individuals with often differing points of view. With the content we produce we want promote:
- Philosophy, arts and the humanities
- Polyvocality and inclusivity
- Discussion and productive disagreement
- Working across disciplines
- Understanding a complex world
- Questioning elitism and anti-intellectualism
- Early career and non-established researchers alongside the work from more established academics
- Open access to knowledge for everyone
We were brought together by professor Richard Wilson in his Kingston Shakespeare Seminar and his efforts as the Sir Peter Hall Professor of Shakespere Studies to bring together academics, practiotioners and the general public. Its off-shoot KiSSiT (Kingston Shakespeare Seminar in Theory) was an earlier iteration of this project, with a focus on theory and philosophy. This influence lives on in this project as well as in the collaboration with the ShiP (Shakespeare in Philosophy) project and Garrick’s Temple to Shakespeare in organising symposia.
This project is administered by Yorick Media LTD, an educational non-profit limited by guarantee company founded by members of the Shakespeare and Philosophy project in 2019.
